About Lucy

Lucy has been practicing Yoga for over a decade − she began to help strengthen her back following a horse-riding accident in her teens which resulted in over 15 years of chronic back pain. Despite the accident, Lucy continued to make competition horse-riding her chosen career until her mid-twenties, when she qualified as a Designer with a BA Degree in Fashion Design.

Her career in Fashion began in Dublin, and then took her to London where she worked as Sales and Marketing Manager for a large German Company. Following the birth of her first child, Lucy left behind the long hours and extensive travel which were part of her job to devote time to her family and to retraining as a Yoga Teacher.

Lucy had discovered Yoga in 1996 and almost immediately noticed a huge improvement in her ever present back-pain. The hope that she could in turn pass this on to others whilst also offering the huge variety of benefits offered by Yoga, led Lucy, by now largely pain free, to embark on the Ruth White Teacher Training Course in Cheam, South London. A little over 2 years later, she was to qualify as a Karuna style teacher of Iyengar Yoga.

Lucy has been teaching since 2001 in London and Ireland, and holds classes each week in the Balham and Wandsworth areas of London (see link to class timetable). In 2006, Lucy had the wonderful opportunity to spend 5 weeks in Pune, India, to study under the guidance of BKS Iyengar himself − the founder of the Yoga that she teaches and who was responsible for bringing Yoga to the West in the 1960′s.

Lucy continues to be influenced to a greater extent by the teaching of Iyengar, but also draws on teachers such as Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Erich Schiffman, Donna Farhi, David Life and many others whose wonderful teaching she has strived to absorb!

Lucy continues to study and has recently gained a diploma in Yoga Therapy at the Yoga Biomedical Trust, and a certificate for teaching Yoga for pregnancy from the Sitaram institute. She is a member of the Independent Yoga Network and the Yoga Register and also of the Yoga Alliance as a RYT500 Teacher.
